Greg Ashton
Coach Ashton just completed his fourth year at the
helm of the Davidson women’s soccer team as the
Wildcats finished 14-5-1 overall. The 2005 season saw his
team finish 14-5-2 and capture their first Southern
Conference regular season crown since 1996. He received
his second Coach of the Year honor. In his first season as
the Wildcats’ head coach, Ashton was named the league’s
Coach of the Year guiding Davidson to the SoCon’s title
game for the first time in five seasons. He played soccer
professionally in New Zealand from 1985-90, and he represented his country
as a Youth National Team memeber beginning with the Under-15 team
through the Under-19 squad. He holds a US Soccer “A” License and also
the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. Ashton has directed camps in
Texas, New York and Massachusetts and was the Director of Coaching for
the San Antonio girl’s soccer club for 10 years.

Matthew Spear
Coach Spear just completed his seventh season as the
Davidson College Head Men’s Soccer Coach in the fall of
2007. His 2005 team finished the season 14-6-1 overall,
claiming the SoCon’s regular season crown and advancing
to the league tournament’s championship game for
the third consecutive season. His 70 career coaching victories
ranks him third all-time at Davidson. In 2003, Spear
guided the Wildcats to their first Southern Conference
Tournament crown and NCAA appearance since 1995.
Along with the team accomplishments in 2003, Spear was tabbed both the
league’s and South Region’s Coach of the Year, making him a finalist for
National Coach of the Year. He has worked at the Davidson Soccer Camps
for several years, both as a collegiate player and coach. Coach Spear holds
US Soccer’s “A” License and NSCAA Premier Diploma. He was also the
team captain of Davidson’s 1992 Final Four Team.
